Season's Change With great anticipation I waited for fall's colors, my camera ready to capture a few more images before winter arrives. Alas, I traveled to the far reaches of the UP and throughout Northern Michigan seeking autumn's display. To my dismay, this was not an autumn where each tree was a blaze of color. Sure, there were some trees that got the message that this was their chance to shine. However, the brilliant colors were here and there, but not everywhere. There are a few images to share from previous autumn years and I still have images from spring and summer to work on through the winter. |

Grandad's Camera
It can be said that the apple, or in my case the nut, does not fall far
from the tree. My grandfather, Charles Haxby, enjoyed taking
photographs throughout his life and his photos are a treasure to me.
Fortunately, I now have his classic rangefinder camera, a Leica M3. This
camera has no light meter, no autofocus, requires no batteries, uses
film, and being all metal has no plastic parts. This camera was

Specials on Framing at Downtown
Frame Up If you cannot make it to Alpena, some of my images are available at the Downtown Frame Up on Front Street in Traverse City. In addition, they are having a special on framing. From October 19th through November 8th, framing will be 30% off and from November 9 - November 30th, framing will be 20% off. They do a great job with all of my framing. |

Lessons Still Available Having a fancy digital camera does not guarantee great images. There, I said it here. I am offering sessions for those of you who have ever wanted to learn more about photography, or how to get more out of your camera. The first session covers the basics of photography. This basic session is only $60 and you will learn some of what I have paid thousands to learn. The second is a hands on shooting session with an introduction to processing images in Photoshop. If you feel like you know your camera, but want to get some hands on training and want to get started with processing using Photoshop, this session is for you ($50). The sessions are scheduled whenever there are enough people signed up. I will try to keep the groups small so that there is time for personal instruction. If you are interested, please contact me via e-mail at thaxby02@yahoo.com or call me at 231-620-0521. |

A Week in Da UP "When I as very young and the urge to be someplace else was on me, I was assured by mature people that maturity would cure this itch. When years described me as mature, the remedy prescribed was middle age. In middle age I was assured that greater age would calm my fever and now that I am fifty-eight perhaps senility will do the job. Nothing has worked." John Steibeck in Travels with Charley - In Search of America. I can well relate to this feeling. So, off I went to Da UP for the first week of October. Camping at Porcupine Mountains State Park on the Shores of Lake Superior as waves roared all night long, heading to the Lake of the Clouds for sunrise, hoping for a break in the clouds to allow moonlight to shine and the deluge on the way back to Munising. I did get a few good images and met a quite a few photographers along the way. I am already planning to be someplace else, where it is warm and sunny in November.
