Hints of Spring I saw my first wildflower of the spring today. It was a hepatica, one of the first brave flowers to bloom in the northwoods. Alas, the flower was still not quite open as the weather was still more like late March than mid-April. With all of the recent rainfall it will only take a few days of spring sunshine to awaken the forest. Then there will be morels, trillium, hepatica, spring beauty, lady slippers, Dutchman's breeches, violets, bellflower and trout lily aplenty in the woods. As the flowers are showing off for the purpose of reproduction, I will be hoping to capture them with my camera at their best. Also, as the days grow longer and the sunny days begin to outnumber the cloudy days the photo opportunities will increase.
An Evening Visitor
Glancing out of a window I saw something out of the ordinary in a snowbank below my deck. Further inspection revealed that it was an owl feasting on what was probably a mouse. So, I gathered the camera, 500 mm lens, tripod and gimbal head and set up near a window. This is what I came away with. Amazing, as I have never seen one of these owls before - except in pictures.

Downtown Frameup Discontinuing Retail Sales For the last several years my photos have been for sale at the Downtown Frame Up on Front Street in Traverse City. They also did my framing. As of May 1, 2011 their store will be moving. Along with the move and a merger with another company, they will no longer be framing or selling photographic prints for retail sale. For the immediate future, some of my prints will be shifted to the Blue Heron Gallery in Elk Rapids and Art in the Loft in Alpena. I will also be showing at summer art shows and my website will still be offering my images.
